EDEN MILLS GOING CARBON NEUTRAL: CASE STUDY OF A COMMUNITY APPROACH

This chapter presents findings from research that we conducted in 2010 and 2011 on the question of community resilience to climate change and rising oil prices in two rural communities in southern Ontario, centred on the following research question: how are community organizations responding to climate change and energy uncertainty, and how could their response be strengthened? A definition and a conceptual framework on community resilience borrowed from Magis (2007a, 2007b, 2009, 2010) are presented, in light of which highlights and insights are collected from the first case study, Eden Mills Going Carbon Neutral. The second case study, Transition Guelph, is the focus of the following chapter and uses the same framework.
